Oil Diffusers

Ok, so there are basically two types of oil diffusers I want to touch on.  There's ultrasonic and nebulizing; depending on what you want to do will determine which diffuser you'll want to purchase.  I took a visit to my local Earth Fare to check out what they have to offer.  By far, the majority offered were ultrasonic....personally, I think it was a cost thing.  So let's get right into the similarities and differences.

I'm so excited by the increase in attention to diffusing oils as a means of home fragrance!  I love essential oils and how beneficial they are to our overall health.  I, too, use a diffuser. So I feel it's only right to  share some thoughts on diffusers and essential oil.  After that, I'll share my favorite recipes.

Essential Oil

Essential oils have long been know for the healing benefits they possess, but for the purposes of diffusing the oil into the air, consider this:
  • Pure, high-quality oils are not man-made,
  • They don't contain hazardous contaminants and pesticides,
  • And they don't contain fillers or other artificial ingredients.
So when purchasing your oils to be used with your diffuser, remember that the oil itself will be dispersed into the air.  Do you really want to inhale harmful carcinogens? I know most of us have grown up on the traditional aerosol air fresheners, paraffin candles, and plug-ins.  STOP!!!  They smell nice and all, but many contain cancer-causing carcinogens.  Asthma and reproductive issues have also been related to use of "traditional" methods of freshening the air.  We don't KNOW these things because manufacturers of these products are not mandated to put all the ingredients on their label.  So be picky when shopping for essential oils!  Your health is worth it!!

Below is a bit more information on diffusers as well as my favorite recipes.

Oil Diffusers

NEBULIZING
  • Does not use water.
  • Does not have to be cleaned.
  • Can be costly depending on the unit.
  • Uses more oil.
  • Can be heard.
ULTRASONIC
  • Uses water that is vibrated creating mist.
  • Could stand a periodic cleaning.
  • Mostly less expensive but can be spendy.
  • Uses MUCH less oil.
  • Can be heard in close proximity.

My Favorite Mixes

Please note, I use an ultrasonic diffuser, so my mixtures will consists of drops to be added to water. My diffuser hold 100ml of water; others will be more or less (I've seen 30ml, 210ml).
CALMING
All day, every day....Lavender (8 drops per 100ml)
Patchouli, Cedarwood, & Eucalyptus (6 drops each per 100ml)

PICK-ME-UP
Peppermint & Lemon (4 drops Peppermint, 6 drops Lemon per 100ml)

As always, enjoy!  And stay beautiful til next time!!
