![]() Tis the season for family, good food, laughter.....and possibly a cold or fall allergies. My family is dealing with it at this very moment. While the symptoms have to essentially run their course as various medications are taken with a cold, there are natural alternatives for getting relief for both in the meantime. My previous recipe was a bit more complex, so here are some simpler ways to get cold/allergy relief using essential oils when the season is upon you. Ingredients...5 Drops Eucalyptus 2 Drops Peppermint 2 Drops Lavender 2 Drops Bergamot 1/2 oz Jojoba Oil Uses...For massage: Blend all ingredients together and massage into chest. For bath: Add oils directly to a tub full of warm water. Steam Inhalation: Add oils to a hot bowl of water (hot enough to produce steam), place towel over head, and breathe deeply. Diffuser: Add water to diffuser to instructed water level, add essential oils, turn on diffuser, and breathe deeply. I know this blend is pretty stout...even quite pungent for some, however, it's really effective for opening up nasal passages when inhaled. Lavender is soothing while Eucalyptus shows off it's anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties that soothe aches and pains associated with oncoming colds. Bergamot is both antibacterial and antibiotic; all these combined into Jojoba oil allows for quick absorption. Be sure to perform a patch test if using for massage to ensure no allergic reactions will occur. Never use these oils on the skin in an undiluted form prior to testing.
